I am looking for information on a John Douglas born 10 Oct 1785 (calculated from info on tombstone) and his parents/family.
John Douglas is my ggg-grandfather. I have the follwoing information:
1) John arrived in Meigs/Athens County, OH prior to 1804 - possibly with a brother David.
2) John married Eleanor (Nellie) Shepherd - 15 Jan 1804 in what is now Athens, Athens County, OH.
3) John/Eleanor farmed land on the Athens/Meigs county border. They raised 9 children. They are buried in Woodyard Cemetery adjacent to what was their farm.
4) Family lore has that John was probably born in MD (on source says VA) or he was born in Scotland and came to the US with his parents as a small child. I have received information from one source that gives his possible POB as Stepney Parrish, Somerset County, MD - but this is just a theory - unproven.
5) Considering traditional naming patterns: John/Eleanor named their first son: David Daniel; their 2nd son Charles Shepherd ; and their 3rd son John, Jr. (my gg-grandfather).
Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated.
