Dorothy, I looked up the land records. You left out that the 1805 sale deed stated that those who sold the land were heirs of James Harper. They could be his children or siblings, or legatees of a will. The deed doesn't say, and doesn't say whether he died intestate. Have you found James Harper in Georgia? If not, you need to find him in Somerset Co. estate records. This land was definitely in Somerset Co. Most of Pocomoke Hd. did go to Worcester Co., but some stayed with Somerset. Here are summaries: Somerset Co. Deeds K:181-183 15 May 1795 Levi Wood Hall and John Hall of Somerset Co. MD to James Harper and his heirs and assigns of same. For £488 to them in hand paid. Part of three tracts of land: one called Pimmoe, another Taras and the third ___ [blank in instrument], situate in Somerset Co. on the N. side of Pocomoke River adjoining each other, formerly held in fee Simple by William Hall late of Somerset Co.. The part conveyed begins at a point of land near a Marsh side adjoining a parcel in possession of Josiah Lankford and Abigal his wife; thence easterly with Thomas White’s Marsh Land until it joins Nelly Nairnes land; thence westerly with and by the said Nelly Nairnes land so far that a line drawn North 2 degrees West to the line of the [that is, meets] Josiah Lankford’s land and thence by and with the said Josiah Lankford’s [line] to the beginning, to contain 164 Acres of land and 12 acres of Marsh, together with all Improvements and appurtenances. Levi Wood Hall and John Hall sign. No wives mentioned in deed or as releasing dower. Somerset Co. Deeds O:184-186, 7 Feb. 1802 Thomas White of Somerset Co. MD to James Harper (and his heirs, assigns and administrators) of the same place. For £22.10 paid, the receipt whereof is acknowledged. All that tract of land and marsh called Priviledge which was surveyed for one William White 22 Nov 1751 lying on the North side of Pokemoke river. Bounded as in the original Grant, containing (clear of elder deeds and surveys) 15-1/2 acres or land more or less. Thomas White signed and acknowledged the deed; his wife Sarah relinquished her dower. (the next deed is a Title Bond where Thomas White agrees to convey land to Peter White). Somerset Co.
