Gail,
I have yet to see any reference to militia service or the
rank of major, but in Ruth Dryden's book of Somerset Land
Records there are several Bruffs mentioned. There is a
Thomas Bruff, silversmith and his wife, Betty, formerly the wife of Stevens White (? widow?) Begging your pardon. Just found him refered to as Major Thomas Bruff. Also a
number of children and or other relations mentioned in
various land transactions in the vicinity of Rehobeth, Md.
(Not Rehobeth Beach, Del.)Transactions ininvolved
"Caldicutt" and "Rehobeth." There is a son Capt. John Bruff
mentioned, and unless I am misreading sons: Joseph, Richard, Bejamin, and James. If you can access this book it
may help you further. Hope this helps you some. George Tawes
