Nancy,

You can write to the State Archives for actual copies of the tax lists' segments for the people you are interested in - full citations and page numbers are given in the posted extracts. There is a *lot* more information in the originals.

Persons listed as 'dependents' could have any of the relationships you describe, and more; could be hired hands or visiting nephews ;-). Heads of household may or may not own land; you really need to look at the originals for a fuller picture, and of course study estate records.
