Benson Family of Palermo

My Grandfather, Thomas Solon Benson, was born in Palermo, Me in 1830.I don't know if he had brothers or sisters. The info I have is that his father's name was Isaac Benson and his mother was Eliza (Pelton) Benson. I believe Isaac was born in Washington County around 1796 but do not know what town. I do not know anything concerning Thomas until he enlisted in the Civil War in 1861. At his enlistment he listed his occupation as, "Physician" and my father always said that his father was a doctor in the Civil War but I don't think this was possible as he was of low rank. He was an orderly at he Contriband Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA however. He got maleria (Ithink while staioned there) and due to a dust storm at the time and complications, he was leagally blind for the rest of his life. He was given a medical discharge with full pension. He was 33 years old at the time. Than you for any help you may be able to give me.
