The Records and Files of the Quarterly Courts of Essex County (Massachusetts), vol. III, p.338 (Mar-June 1666), has the following on Jeremiah Meacham:

"Jeremiah Meachum was granted administration upon the estate in this country of Thomas James, late deceased, and was ordered to bring in an inventory to the next Salem Court." (see http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/salem/witchcraft/Essex/vol3/images/essex338.html )

When the next court was in session (Sep-Nov 1666), it was recorded (on p.379) that, "Jeremiah Meachum, administrator of the estate of Thomas James, late deceased, brought in an inventory, and he was ordered to perfect it for the next Salem Court." (see http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/salem/witchcraft/Essex/vol3/images/essex379.html )

Questions:
Has anyone found an earlier record of Jeremiah Meacham in Salem?
Could this Thomas James have been any relation to Jeremiah Meacham?
When it says that Jeremiah Meacham was to administer Thomas James' estate "in this country", does this mean in America? Did Thomas James also own an estate in England or somewhere else?
Was the Rev. Thomas James of East Hampton, Long Island (see the 1668 record from East Hampton) son of this Thomas?
