Charles M. Medlock is in my line. His father, Montgomery was my 3 Great Grandfather.Charles died in 1871 and is buried in the Medlock family Cemetery in Hancock Co Ga.
His wife name was Mary, however I have been assuming her last name must have been Long due to the Nancy Long age 60 living with Charles and Mary in 1870 in Warren Cnty. There are several land transactions regarding Charles and Mary and in those she is listed as Mary S. Medlock:These land transactions from Warren Co. Ga:
Source:"Cemeteries & Genealogy, Warren Co, Ga & immediate Vicinity" by Daniel Crumpton
Deed Date: Feb 7 1857 - Charles M. Medlock witnessed a deed between James Shivers and Edmund Jones. (seems a bit young to witness a deed)
Date: Feb 1872:MARY S MEDLOCK sells land to W.E.Anderson
(Charles M. Medlock had died by that date)
Date: Feb 1874: MARY S. MEDLOCK is listed as owning adjoining land next to Daniel Jewell(a seller)and also adjoining W. Wright, and Thomas J. Vearsey.
I am pretty certain that she is Charles's wife, as those names involved are connected to the family. In addition I have a letter written by Montgomery mentioning his son living near him (dated after the civil war).I can provide much more information on this family as well as those located around them. What I do not have nor have I bothered to check were the marriage records for Charles in either Warren or Hancock county for the time period he would have married. I have assumed he married after his discharge for disability from Co. K. I have his military papers and unfortunately, they do not say if he was/or was not married.
I would be interested in hearing your thoughts and ideas on this subject, and particularly interested in the Asley connection.
