I am attempting to start one part of my family tree involving the family name of MEECH. Wish me luck! Anyway, perhaps the following might be of interest to you -

The info. I/my family has is a letter dated 5/2/1853 from James Meech to his brother, William; saying that his (James's) wife had been dead for 13 years, and that his eldest son (James) had 4 children, his second son (William)lived in Rangiora, and he (James senior) had a daughter named Matilda.

My paternal grandmother's name was CLARA LOUISA MEECH, and she was one of 6 children.
Apparantly 2 sisters died in infancy and the youngest of her brothers died at age 3 years after falling into a fire. The remaining 2 siblings were boys, but we don't really know anything about them. My grandmother was part-Maori.

Feel free to contact me if any of this information is of interest to you.

Ruth Dolan
