From what we have worked out over he years MEECH name comes from Beaminster Dorset UK.
Until the railway was built in that neck of the woods the names was based there i.e. until about 1850-1860.
Hving said that the earliest reference that I have is from York where the Lord Mayor was a MEECH in about 1423.
Jane MEECH was in the first fleet of convcts to OZ but she changed her name to Alcock.
Tasmania had a first class cricketer in the early part of the 20the century.
