The spelling of the island is Wight

The history of this branch of the MEECH clan I would supect came from the mainland at Portsea ( Portsmouth). The suggestion is that the MEECH name came from Dorset in the Beaminster area. This is the theory which has yet to be proved or disproved. There were Meeches in the North of England in about 1423 in York where one Meech was Lord Mayor.

This my not answer you question but it may give you some leads
