Meech: Dorset-Can/US 1820-present

Trying to find information on William Meech b. 1820 (possibly 1828) in Dorset, England. It has been said that he was a representative of the firm "Somerset House, The Carlins" of London, England. I'm not sure what type of business this is so would be interested in finding that out too.
William came to Newfoundland sometime around 1857. He married Elizabeth LONG there on 12 July 1857. They had four children--Jane Elizabeth (believe she died young); John Albert b. 14 Dec 1859; Michael George b. 27 Jan 1862; William Henry b. 18 Jan 1864.
It appears that his wife passed away and then he came to Nova Scotia with his children. He then married Amelia SUTHERLAND and they had six children-James Sutherland b. 17 Sept 1869; Jane Elizabeth b. 17 Dec 1871; Samuel Kent b. 07 July 1874; Mary Holland b. 11 Nov 1876; Eliza Evangeline (my grandmother) b. 02 May 1879 and Winifred b. 20 Sep 1881. The family settled on Cape Breton Island. Some of the children eventually moved to the United States.
If anyone else out there is researching this family I would be more than happy to exchange information. Even if I can't find out more about William himself, I would be most interested to find more of my relatives.
