Hello John,
The only Britt info that I have was taken from the 1819 Pitt Co., NC Deed where “Numan Meeks and Rutha BRITT, my sister, sells land to Willis Randolph which our father Nathan Meeks left us by will.I do have a copy of the above deed.
This is a work in progress and could be my Ruth. The 1830 Greene Co., NC census, p 250 – Rutha Britt as h/h with 1m 15/20; 1f 15/20; 1f 20/30; 1f 40/50 (1781-1790).My Ruth (Meeks) Britt was born ca 1786 so she would fit in this 40/50 age range.1820 Greene Co., NC, p. 262 – William Britt age 26/45 and a female age 26/45 plus others in the house.1800 Greene Co., NC, p. 593 – William Britt age 16/26; 1f age 16/26, no others in their home. Also there on the same page (593) and living next to each other are Simon Britt, Joseph Britt, and Alexander Britt and in the next house is Allen Meeks. Some of my Thigpen’s are on this same page (593).1790 Dobbs Co., NC is a William Britt h/h with 1m u/16 and 1 female. Now we have Britt, Meeks, and Thigpens in the same county before moving on into Pitt County, NC.I believe the name to be BRITT.Give me some feed back.
Dobbs Co., NC was created in 1758 out of Johnston Co and was discontinued in 1791.Greene Co., NC was formerly Dobbs County and was created in 1799.My Thigpen’s were in Dobbs (now Greene) Co., NC
Lorene
