Looking for records of the children of Joseph Cleveland and Martha "Patsy" Meeks. Joseph was born 1791 Elbert Co., GA to Wyatt and Temperance Freeman Cleveland. Martha was born March 3, 1792 Pendleton Dist. SC to Littleton Meek and Elizabeth Ivey. They moved to Tuscaloosa Co.,AL around 1820 when the capital was moved to Tuscaloosa from Huntsville. Land tax record of Franklin Co, GA shows he owned land there in 1819. It is "believed" that the first govenor of Alabama's wife and Joseph were cousins. That may be the reason for the move. They may have lived for a short period in Madison Co.,AL area before migrating to Tuscaloosa. Joseph and Patsy married May 2, 1809 in Franklin Co.,GA. Between Sept 1813 and March 1814, Joseph served in the battles of Ottosee and Camp Defiance. He received Land grant of 80 acres for this service March 14, 1855. On land purchase of the 1830s in Tuscaloosa Co., he signed his name as Joseph Buchanan Cleveland. His last land purchase was in 1861 Tuscloosa Co., AL. It is thought that he died not long afterward. Tale goes that he died on the way to Montgomery, AL to deposite a sum of money. What happened to Martha?
