Thomas Megowan was the town jailer and ran a hotel in Lexington KY, among other occupations...

The Kentucky Gazette, Lexington, KY, FHC 0206919 (11 May 1844 pg 4), FHL 0009420. " Farmers & Traders Hotel, corner of Short & Mulberry Streets; adjoining the Livery Stables of Jos. R. Megowan, Lexington. Thos. B. Megowan, proprietor of the above establishment, would respectfully inform his old customers and the travelling public generally, that he is prepared and still continues to accommodate travellers with the very best fare, cheaper than any respectable hotel in the city. Stage passengers can take seats at the above establishment for any point."
