Hi Irene,
It is my understanding that almost all Mehegans originated in Ireland, with County Cork having the most. The earliest ancestor I have found is George Mehagan who married Ann Lingott in 1822 in Manchester, England.
I have found various christening and marriage records for their descendants but nothing else on them. I have found earlier records for other Mehegans and Mehagans but haven't been able to connect any of them.
Where was your great grandfather born and married?

Gail
