dear moira,my 1851 griffiths valuation(co.cork only)turns up no michael but a whole slew of denises(7)spelled the irish way,1(n).a boston mehegan told me that the name comes mainly from bandon.but 1851 which is 5 yrs.after the start of An Gorta Mor(the great hunger)finds a good many of them in cork city,where they can hope to find a soup kitchen,and hopefully a job to enable them to gain passage money.then its a small hop down to cobh and onto a ship going god only knows where.pat dugger has a copy of my list.(pdugger@bigpondaus)i asked him to send a copy to you.good luck,good hunting.your " cousin"jim mehigan
