Origin of my Family Name
Posted by: Ged Meheran Date: June 13, 2000 at 07:01:17

Can anyone out there shed some light on the origins of my family name. Did Mehegan become Meheran at some stage througha deliberate choice or did one of my ancestors have a few drinks too many when he or she signed some documents? Information in a nutshell is that my ancestors were from Ireland ( Galway?, Roscommon?) and before 1720 possibly Scotland. Possible derivations are from Macdonald, MacIlherron, Meehan.

There is next to no new information available at the moment, so if anyone has any info. then please let me know.
