Claus Meier Family of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
Posted by: Pat Moody (ID *****1567) Date: January 06, 2005 at 16:34:06

Seeking information on family and ancestry of Katherine Magdalena Meier, daughter of Claus Meier and his wife, Anna (or Antje).

Katherine Magdalena Meier (born 13 August 1850 in Schleswig-Holstein) married Hans Heinrich Wiese (born 10 March 1842 in Holm or Helm, Germany). Her daughter Minnie Alvina Wiese was born on 10 June 1875 in Schoenberg, Germany so the marriage date was probably 1874. Lena and H. H. Wiese immigrated in 1876 settling first in Davenport, Iowa; then Arcadia, Iowa; and finally Spearville, Kansas. Hans Heinrich Wiese went to school in Kiel and studied to become a carpenter and cabinet maker by trade in Hamburg; but his primary occupation in Kansas was farming. According to family lore, they were cousins; if so, either Hans Heinrich Wieseís mother was a sister of Claus Meier or his mother-in-law Anna Meierís maiden name was Wiese.

Claus Meier died in Germany and his widow Anna (or Antje) immigrated from Hamburg in 1894 to live with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren in Spearville, Kansas. Anna Meier is buried next to her daughter and son-in-law. The tombstone indicates that Anna Meier was born in 1818 and died in 1899. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.
