Hi Pat - my family name is PETERING an my father traced this back to the following - read below about sons Karl Heinrich, Friedrich Wilhelm - interesting that they form the name you're looking for. TWO men are behind the Australian Peterings - it seems unsure of where the name PETERING came from. Hermann Heinrich Meier - called PETERING (b:15.4.1794 / son of David Christian Meyer & Anna Cathrine Ilsabein Kiel) married Anna Ilsabein Bergosse (b:28.8.1811) in 1835, they had one son Heinrich Wilhelm who remained in Germany. Anna's 2nd marriage in 1843 was to Franz Heinrich Hellman - called PETERING (b:1.1.1816 / son of Balthasar Heinrich Freidrich Meyer & Regina Clara Drebbe). They had 3 sons - Karl Heinrich, Friedrich Wilhelm & Hermann August (migrated to USA). KARL came to Australia in 1866. Franz Heinrich Hellman - called PETERING married for the 2nd time in 1852 to Henriette Caroline Luise Bergosse and they had 4 children - Anna Magaretta Luise (stayed in Germany), Franz Hermann Heinrich (my g-g grand father), Heinrich Friedrich August & Caroline Luise. Franz Heinrich Hellman - called PETERING married for the 3rd time in 1864 to Anna Catharina Wippermann and they had 4 children - Catharina Marie 1864, Catharina Caroline 1865, Catharine Marie 1868 & Caroline Wilhelmine 1871. Franz Heinrich Hellman - called PETERING married for the 4th time in 1871 to Anna Marie Luise Ploor with no children to this marriage. NOTE 1 : Anna Ilsabein Bergosse & Henriette Caroline Luise Bergosse were 1/2 sisters. NOTE 2 : Franz Heinrich Hellman - called PETERING listed his name for his 3rd and 4th marriages as PETERING - born HELLMAN. Notify Administrator about this message?
