I have recently been researching my family up in St. Ferdinand d' Halifax, Quebec and my Meehan family came to Megantic County Quebec around 1825 from County Tyrone, Ireland. The last ancestors living in Quebec was around 1970-1972 and local people inform me that they spelled their name both ways, Meehan & Meighan. I found this very interesting. But death certificates from the local parish all indicate Meehan. Maybe because of the change of time and the locality. But for sure, they were Irish to the core!
