MEIGHAN FAMILY
Posted by: Mary Priola (ID *****1715) Date: October 17, 2002 at 19:35:58

My grandmother was Margaret Meighan (Meehan) born in Scotland in 1870. Her parents were Patrick Meighan and Ann (maiden name possibly Kilday)both were Irish but Patrick was born and raised in Scotland according to family lore. Patrick immigrated to Pennsylvania, U.S. and Ann and Margaret followed in 1880; there were possibly other chilren at that time but have no info on Margaret's siblings except their names.
Ann's death certificate of 1911 lists her mother as Rose Kilday, no father's name is given, but they are both listed as being born in Ireland. I do not know if they remained in Scotland or immigrated also.
Margaret married Martin Degnan in Pennsylvania, she raised their nine children alone after Martin was killed in a mining accident in 1908.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You Mary P.
