MEISTER - Illinois, Iowa, N & S Dakota, Missouri & Arkansas
George Christopher Meister b. 1822 "somewhere in Germany" d.1874 (probably Coles County, IL)
m. Marguerite Elizabeth (Unknown) b. 1828, Germany
Came to the U.S. in 1866 (probably through a Canadian port) and settled in Illinois, Coles County.
Children:(first four born in Germany)
Some -- but not ALL of these children later used the Anglicized name "MASTERS" at times, often going back to MEISTER or MEISTERS eventually.
1.George David Meister b. 1859m. ?d. Mode, IL
2.James William Meister b.1862 m.Minnie Zimmerman 3/9/1888 Coles Co.d. Illinois
3. Gertrude Meister b.1864 m. William Lewis Taylor 10/7/86Coles Co.
NOTE: I have the names of the 5 daughters of Gertrude and Wm. Taylor if anyone's interested.
4.Sophia Meister b.1864(think she was Gertrude's twin (m. George W. Taylor (Wm.s brother)
NOTE: I have the names their children too ...they had 9 children including 4 boys.
5.General Warren Meisterb. 1866
NOTE:"General" is a given name, NOT a military title. He was my grandfather and the first child born in this country (actually on the ship before it landed).
"General" married Mary Elizabeth (Pratt) Webber in Iowa in 1897 (two children). They eventually divorced and he married again in Illinois and had more children. He also spent time in the Dakotas, Missouri, Arkansas, and may have had more marriages and children.
6. Marion Jacob Meister b. 1870 m. Mattie HITE on December 27, 1894 in Coles County, IL
With so many children and descendants, there must be SOMEONE out there who is interested in this family.
