I am researching the old Melton Schoolhouse on Spies Road in upper Moore County, NC. The Neil Melton family donated the land for the school. I have an article about the school, but the publishing date nor the source are known. The article states that this was the first educational facility in the immediate area, and that one of the educators taught in the area about 1880. My maternal 2nd g-grandfather James Melton had a brother Neil (1833-1907), who married Eliza Owen in 1852 and lived in this area, I think.
It was said that my g-grandfather Eli Melton (1859-1930) was a schoolteacher, so I am curious if there is a connection. If anyone has a lead or a link, please reply or email. The school is not, to my knowledge, on any Historic Registry, but the building may still be standing as a residence.
