Hi Ann Thomas,
I am also in the process of locating my family roots. I have found that the Perry Melton, Carol Warren posted ties to my family background. Abner Melton, listed as age 32 on the 1880 Mississippi Census on Beat 1, in Okitibbeha County is believed to be the son of Perry and Sallie Melton of North Carolina. Sallie's maiden name was unknown, however, it was assumed by me that both she and Perry were slaves because their race is listed as Mulatto. Abner Melton married Eliza. I believe that Perry Melton was a Sr. Old family Bible handwritten documents list a Perry Melton as born in 1827, and Sallie born in 1823. Their birth handwritten records list another Perry Melton born January 30, 1895. Handwritten Bible records also show that Sallie died on July 4, 1896. Could this be the Sallie and Perry you are looking for? If so, then I now know the last name of my great, great, great grandmother-Sallie (Thompson-?)-Melton. email me at:
