My grandfather was Alfred Mendoza circa 1895 to1958. He was a descendant of Daniel Mendoza. I have had home a print of the boxer and I remember seeing an original of his memoirs when I was a child. I never met my grandfather he died before I was born but I recall my mother telling me that his father sent him (alfred) and his brothers to an orphanage when his mother died. Apparently his father was the boxing correspondent for the Evening Standard newsaper in London.
I could find out a lot more as Alfred Mendoza two remaining daughters are still alive.
My grandmother told me her husband was related to both Peter Sellars' mother and Daniel Mendoza the boxer.

Get back to me if I can be of help.
