It seems very likely to me that
Maria Jesus Mendoza is related to my wife's family. My wife is an enrolled member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, whose headquarters are in Tucson, Arizona. There are a large number of Yaqui Mendozas on the base roll of this tribe. I would be quite surprised if any Mendoza with connections in both Tucson and the Rio Yaqui was not at least part Yaqui. Hermosillo attracted a lot of Yaqui workers back in the day (probably still does). Tucson was a refuge for Yaquis fleeing persecution by the Mexican Government during the regime of Porfirio Diaz, who instuted a policy of genocide, forced deportation & slavery in the period before the 1911 Mexican Revolution to try and finally crush Yaqui guerrillas who had fought for their lands (successfully) since the Colonial era. My wife's great grandfather Jose M. Mendoza
b. 4/12/1868 Baquochi Hacienda, Sonora, Mexico
d. 12/22/1965 Ontario, San Bernardino Co., California was a Yaqui warrior, who joined Pancho Villa's army during the Revolution, was part of the Yaqui community in Arizona & finally settled in California.

He married Carlota Manje b. 11/4/1988 in Sonora, she was either a Mayo Indian or part Yaqui part Mayo, (the Mayo are extremely similar to the Yaqui culturally and are practically intertwined, their lands bordered each other) her father Ynez Mange fought with the Mexican Federal Army during the Revolution. Jose Mendoza spirited her away from her family (near Baviacora in Sonora, it seems if I'm citing the correct records) during a raid. She died in Ontario, California June 15, 1977. I think her mother was Francisca Martines & that her parents were married 5/1/1883 at San Pedro de Alconchi near Baviacora in Sonora, Mexico.
I am trying to figure out which of the eight Yaqui pueblos the Mendoza family belonged to. Yaqui families traditionally belong to one of these pueblos whether they have ever actually lived there or not. They are Cocorit, Bacum, Torim, Vicam, Potam, Raum, Huirivis & Belem. If anyone knows please tell me. I hope this helps someone, thanks.
