Thank you for responding to my previous posting. In direct reply to your question, I regret I cannot help you trace your great uncle Aron John Mendoza, who came to the US. As far as I know I was the first member of my branch of the Mendoza family to come here (in 1966).
However, I have determined that we are related. Your gt.gt.gt grandfather, Mordicai Mendoza, was born in London on 18 January 1774 (Bevis Marks Records Part V, page 4). His parents were Moses Mendoza & Judith Mendoza, who were married at Bevis Marks in 1771.
Moses & Judith had another son, David, born on 18 May 1776 (i.e. Mordicai's younger brother). It is from David Mendoza that I am descended. I haven't worked out the term to describe our relationship, but the above story describes it.
You may be interested to know that Moses Mendoza (your gt.gt.gt.gt grandfather) was born in London in 1744, the son of Aaron Mendoza and Benvenida Tubi. Aaron & Benvenida were married at Bevis Marks in 1730. Benvenida was born in Spain in 1709, the daughter of Abraham Tubi.
That proves that at least that branch of our family were "conversos", who stayed in Spain after the expulsion of Jews in 1492 and pretended to convert to Christianity. Apparently the Tubi family left Spain for London between 1709 and 1730.
I have not included all the references for the above facts, but I have them all and would be pleased to provide them.
It is nice to find a far flung Mendoza relative, although neither of us currently has the name. Let's keep the conversation going.
