Mendoza, Antonio, 'The butcher of Seville'
Posted by: Steven Mendoza Date: January 27, 2002 at 00:23:01
  of 436

Antonio Mendoza was from Seville, Spain in the 1830s. I know he was a butcher. He married Maria Nune. I don't know when, probably in the 1850s.

Their son was another Antonio Mendoza. He was born in Seville in about 1864. He worked in Seville as a corkmaker with a wine company. In about 1891 he arrived in Melbourne Australia. He married Emma Louise Wilson between 1892 and 1900. He worked as a carpenter and builder in Melbourne.(Antonio may have had a sister, Esther Selina Mendoza, but that is not confirmed.)

They had a son. Guess what his name was? Yes, the dynasty continued with another Antonio Mendoza, who was my grandfather. He was born 18 July 1900, Melbourne, Australia, died 3 December 1963, Sydney, Australia. He had nine children.

Antonio Mendoza (born Seville, about 1864) died 27 September 1953, in Melbourne, Australia. Emma Louise Mendoza died 3 February 1942.

Can anyone help me to fill in the details about Antonio Mendoza, 'the butcher of Seville'? Or of his son Antonio the carpenter?

I went to Seville in 1997 but could get no information on how to get birth certificates or any family history information. I want to trace back from 'the butcher'.

I hope this information can help someone in their family history, anyway.
