My husband's Great-Great-Grandparents were ATILANA MENDOZA & Gregorio Garavito. I am estimating their dates of birth to be in the 1850s to 1860s. My Mother-in-Law said that Atilana Mendoza was of Mexican Indian descent. Her children were Pablo, Vincenta, Trinidad, Leocadia, and my husband's Great-Grandpa, Jose Matias Garavito (1876-1916). Jose was born in Mexico, and died in CA. While in the US, Jose went by the name of Jose Barajas. Although Jose gave his children the Garavito name, it wound up being spelled Garabito most of the time. Gregorio & Atilana were both said to have been born in Mexico. Their son Jose was married in Romita, Guanajuato, Mexico. Jose Matias Garavito married Celsa (Selsa) Hernandez, and their children were Juanita, Lupe, Manuela, Santos, Porfiria, Juan & Francisca & my husband's Grandpa, Antonio Hernandez Garavito (1907-1996). Antonio Garabito married Carmen Lara. We are in Southern CA, but my Mother-in-Law says that much of her Mendoza/Garabito family ended up in Northern CA, and Washington (the state). Let me know if you think that your Francisco & my Atilana may be related.
