Hello Lisa (and other Mendoza's)
I read with interest your message and list of replies. I was especially intriqued with the fact that you are from London. Here's why:
My mother is a Mendoza who was Jewish and came from a long line of Jewish Mendoza's, forced to leave Spain with so many others. Her family moved to London. In the mid 1860's, Aaron Mendoza, a cigar maker, moved to New York City. One of his children was Isaac Mendoza. Isaac founded a widely respected bookstore in lower Manhattan (The Isaac Mendoza Bookshop) and had three boys, Aaron, Mark (b. 1890,) and David who together, took over the business. Mark had a son (Jerry b, 1916) and daughter, Shirley (b. 1922,) my mother.
Shirley and my father, Julie Nathanson, made a trip to London in the 1970s, in part to see if they could get in touch with that part of our family tree. They met a relative named Cyril Mendoza, who was a cousin of Mark.
Is there any possibility that you had a Cyril Mendoza in your family tree?
