Hello again...
I've never seen the spelling of the surname as McNeice before. But with the illiteratacy of the day, & names spelled phonetically, it's certainly a possiblity. As far as the "popularity" of names of the era, the Scots-Irish were famous for their use of family given names each generation & the use of surnames as middle names. If you Google "Scots-Irish naming patterns" you'll probably get lots of links to sites that give you that pattern.
