The following is taken from "A Blakey Book" by Bernard Buckner Blakey...November 1977.
B.B.Blakey 210 W. Grant St. (424) Box 105 Minneapolis, Minnesota 55403:

"James Menees b c1710, prob in Ireland, since he is said "to have made his way to America with the Scotch-Irish migration after 1730." The name seems to be a corruption of the name McNees or McNeese, a name well known in Ireland, especially County Antrim. He lived in Amherst Co., Va. until Feb 1782, then to Pittsylvania Co., Va., near his son, Benjamin, who owned a farm on Turkey Cook Creek, not far from the Henry Co., border. In Nov 1783, he took up residence with the Whitsitts in Henry Co., near Martinsville, until Oct 1790, when they all migrated to Tenn; d 1792, at the home of his grand-children, Wm and Elizabeth (Whitsitt) Breathitt. He m. Ellen (Cardwell) Breathitt, widow of Ranny Breathitt; poss daughter of Thomas & Mary (Blackly) Cardwell, who m 22 June 1716 Middlesex County, VA. He seems to have distributed his estate to his children in 1767, reserving enough to maintain himself in comfort and credit. Issue (Menees): Ellen b c1739 m William Whitsitt; James b 1741, d 1837, m Elizabeth_____; Benjamin m Ann_____. "

Footnote: At the time of James' death, it is believed the Breathitts were living in the Nashville area. They moved to Christian/Logan County about 1798-99.
