Looking for Leonard Menser
Posted by: Cathy Date: March 31, 2001 at 02:05:50

I've been given wonderful leads by Virginia, but I'm hoping someone else out there might be able to give me some insight too. I'm practically positive the Leonard I'm looking for is Leonard Elwood Menser, b. 01.26.1920. He father a son, named Leon, 03.13.1941. I'm told Leonard was 20 or 21 when Leon was born, so it would only fit that this is the one I'm looking for.
I believe his son, Leon, was born out of wedlock and things were kept hush-hush about such things back then so it may be difficult to find positive information regarding him being the right Leonard Menser.
Leon was given up for adoption when his mother (name unknown) became too ill to take care of him and he was given up for adoption in (roughly) 1945, she died (I believe) when Leon was 5. He was adopted and raised in Providence, KY.
Did Leonard go by the nickname Leon? Was his first born son named Leon after him? Is anybody out there that would know about this family "scandal"? It's funny that unwed mothers now go to sperm banks in order to have children before their clocks tick out, but a short 50-60 years ago, it was SO taboo to consider an unwed mother should want a child.
I am in direct correspondence with Virginia A., who has been giving me all sorts of Menser family information, but I'm hoping perhaps there's someone else out there that can confirm Leonard Elwood is the right one I am seeking. He was married twice, once to a Hazel Hooker and once to a Dorothy Greer, I believe he had five other children between his two wives, possibly three boys and two girls, or three girls and two boys.
Can anyone else confirm this information for me????
