Brooklyn Standard Union Dec 21, 1863. MERIAN. - Drowned on board the Weehawken, off Charleston, Dec. 6th, Henry W. MERIAN, assistant-engineer, U.S.N., aged 23 years, only son of J.J. MERIAN, Esq., of this city The Gallant Dead
A slight tribute of respect to the memory of Henry W. MERIAN, Third Engineer on board the ill-fated Weehawken:
The mighty are fallen - the young and the old
Have finished their course on this earthly abode;
Each day brings the record of the sudden demise
Of a friend or a brother now lost in that sleep.
Which awaiteth the people of God!

Such has been the fate of him whose early life
Was passed among us -- Henry J. Merian,
His heart was given to his country,
His life to his Lord.
Long live his memory!
