Since my previous post, I have found additional information on this family. I have listed below much of it. By 1870, Henry MERKER (also found as MARKER) had accumulated considerable land in Rich Township, Cook County, Illinois.

Henry immigrated to the U. S. from “Ingerweiber, near Strasborg” on August 28, 1828. He worked as a railroad laborer on the first steam railroad built in the U.S. between Baltimore and Washington. In 1829 he moved to New Lancaster, Ohio. Henry married Elleanor HEMMION on April 16, 1831 and had at least one child, Adam MERKER, in Ohio in 1835. In 1836 they moved to Rich, Cook County, Illinois, had at least three more children, and settled there. Henry married Christine SCHILLING in 1855 and had at least 6 children together.

In 1882, according to the Cook County, Illinois History, Henry “and his estimable wife were each presented by the German Old Settlers' Club with a gold medal commemorative of their advanced age and of the fact that Mr. MERKER was the oldest farmer in the county.”

I am interested in finding any information about any of the folks listed below, their ancestors, and their descendants. My daughter is the 3rd great grandchild to Henry and Christine MERKER.
