Joyce, There are 2 Merrell/Merrill families in the USA. One came in thru Mass. the other Richard thru NY>NJ>NC and then all over the South. I think most of the Merrells in TN came from NC, like my family. I have 30 John Merrell's in my data base but I can't fine a match. I did find this website listing a John G. Merrill in the 5th Tenn.
