I'm trying to prove a grandmother's maiden name. A file on FamilySearch has a family that may be ours. Children of Benjamin and Penelope MERRELL include Jemima b. 1791 Randolph, NC, and Nimrod b. 1784 Randolph, NC. THe file lists Wm KINAD as Jemima's spouse. In 1850 Rusk Co, TX, William Kinkade 36 b. SC is living with wife Susan 37 b. NC; in the same hh are the Kinkade children and Jemima 59 b. NC and Nimrod Merrell 64 b. NC. It is possible that Jemima is m/o William and that Kinad is a corruption of Kincaid, however spelled. Also on FamilySearch I saw a listing that Nimrod had a dtr Susan b. 1813. The next hh to the Kinkade fam. is Robert and Isabella MARLOW; This is our family. They were m. in 1850 and Isabella had 3 children 18, 13 11, by SANDLIN, the name she was m. under. An old family researcher suggested long ago that Isabella was a Kincaid. If that is true, her neighbor William, could be her brother and Jemima her mother, and Nimrod an uncle. It was speculated that Susan Kincaid, w/o William was a Sandlin and sister of
the other neighbor, Alex Sandlin. But what if Susan is a MERRELL, d/o Nimrod- the name and age match, and Nimrod is in the household.
This is all just speculation on another brick wall. I would appreciate any information or direction anyone can give.
