My grandfather's name was Robert Wason Lane and he was born July 15, 1851 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, USA. I was told the Wason name came from someone very dear to his folks His father's name was John V. Lane and he was born February 14, 1818 either in Maryland or West Virginia. His mother's name was Annis Elizabeth and I do not know her maiden name. It was not in the bible that I have. I have the bible that Robert Wason Lane gave to my grandmother, Elizabeth Catherine Ann Jackson, as a wedding present. Robert Wason Lane died May 20, 1877 in Lonaconing, Maryland and is buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Moscow, Maryland. I was told that originally they came from England, but have not been able to trace the information back that far.
I remember my father being very definite about the name of Wason as he did not want it confused with something similar.
