The City Directory of NYC for 1863 lists a number of Messemers who were all living at 358 Second Ave. They were Edward (a varnisher), John (a varnisher), Peter (no occupation given), Peter, Jr. (a varnisher), and Thomas (a policeman). Peter Sr. may have been the father of the others since no occupation was given and since he was apparently Peter, Sr. I presume that these Messemers were probably brothers except that Peter Sr. may have been an older brother or perhaps the father.
The City Directory of NYC for 1864 lists the following Messemers at 358 Second Ave. Edward (varnisher), John (a polisher), Peter (no occupation given) and Thomas (a policeman).
Information on this Messemer family and their relatives has been posted on Ancestry.com along with notes.
