Your post caught my eye because I married a Messenger, and my maiden name is Filley. It is a very unusual last name and I have only run into a handful of Filleys that weren't in my immediate family in my entire life.

Try going to, and do a search on Riverius Messenger. There are several men with that name, but the one you are looking for is also there. I found this:

# ID: I87624161
# Name: Riverius MESSENGER
# Given Name: Riverius
# Surname: Messenger
# Sex: M
# Birth: 3 Nov 1802 in New Hartford, CT
# Death: Mar 1874
# Burial: Crescent Hill Cemetery, near Harrisonville, Mo.
# Change Date: 3 Nov 2001

Father: Reuben MESSENGER, JR. b: 2 Jan 1778 in Litchfield Co., CT
Mother: Hannah PAYNE b: 25 Oct 1780 in Litchfield Co., CT

Marriage 1 Hannah FILLEY b: 11 Sep 1810

The if you do the rootsweb search, you can then search Riverius's father Reuben and Mother Hannah.

My husband is out of town right now, and he has my lap top computer. I recognize Reuben as being in my husbands lineage, unfortunately that genealogy information is in the computer that is out of town. Good Luck in your search!
