Hi Dan,
Elisha (Eliu)(?) Henry Messick was the son of John Wesley Messick who moved to what is now Baxter County Arknasas near Mountain Home, AR. He is buried near here where an existing Masonic tombstone may be seen. My son and I fenced the grave site w/the permission of the owner of the pasture where the grave is found. He and his Mother,(believed to have never been married) show up in the local census in 1850. He moved here from Tennessee. His grandfather, Richard was found in the TN Surrey county census in 1850 and is 80 years old at the time. Richard was born in Sussex county Delaware in 1767. Richard is believed to be the son on John Messick,(a little fuzzy here, but the dates match) the son Isaac Messick, the son, of Julian Messick.Julian was a French Huegenot, "transported" from France in 1664. I have nothing prior to this date. The second generation Isaac, etc. was found in the Sussex County DE census of 1790, the first extant census for that county. John W. Messick was my great, great grandfather, My great grandfather was also one of his sons, James Marion Messick, My cousins and I placed a belated marker in the old cementery in Mountain Home where his grave is located, procured from Department of Defense by another cousin. He fought for the South in the Civil War, was wounded in the battle of Corinth, MS. my grandfather, Warren Henry Messick, way the Baxter county surveyor for many years. my father Whitley Woodson Messick, was a "jack of all trades" myself, Perry Joe Messick, 20 yesrs, US Army, My children, Denise P, Roger & Rory, (twins), Gale Ann, and April Joy. all married and living in different states in the South. I believe most if not all Messicks in the US are kinfolks. There is some information on the web that dispute this however.
Hope this helps, If you are ever in Mountain Home give me a call I will show you John W.' grave site.
