Metters Family

Hi
My name is Derek Metters I live in the UK.
I was told that the namw originated in the low countries or Gelderland That sort of fits with the German link.
My ancestors left the UK West country (Devon/Cornwall)at a time of recession in the iron mining industry to go to the boom area of west Cumberland to mine heamatite (iron ore)in the 19th century. I have little knowledge about the rest of the family except; There is a Metters on the Canadian Vimy Ridge memorial WW1, there is a Metters metal works in Australia. In the post war recession some of the family went to Amercia (Wilkes Barre I think) but my grandfather came back to UK through injury. They also went to Malaysia and I think Australia. Jeremy Metters, is a UK government scientist, no known relation and I once found some court records of involving Metters in the US, plus an Air force footballer, plus the head of Blue ridge industries
