Don't know if this is any help but the only time I have seen the wife as Amelia is as a potential spouse on FreeBMD website and information given to me in my early queries into my family tree.

"5. JONATHAN METTERS (JAMES2, ELIZABETH1 UNKNOWN) was born 1823 in Whitchurch, Devon, and died 16 December 1904. He married AMELIA STRIKE.
She was born 1823 in Tavistock, Devon.5. JONATHAN METTERS (JAMES2, ELIZABETH1 UNKNOWN) was born 1823 in Whitchurch, Devon, and died 16 December 1904. He married AMELIA STRIKE.

Apart from this, all census records show Emma, Emily and once Emeline.

There is always the chance the family tree roots have gotten in to a knot. <VBG> I do know my Jonathan and his wife Emma were alive for the 1901 census.
