My mother-in-law was a Meetze, a name her father changed from Metz. His father's name was Silas Arthur Metz and they arrived in South Carolina (date unknown thus far) and settled in Irmo, SC, Lexington county, in an area known as Dutch Fork (actually Duetche Fork). Their background in German and Lutheran. Hope this helps.
