The METZ Family manuscript was compiled in 1986. The almost 1250 names, index by surname and first names for METZ is quite extensive, especially when one realizes this was type written and information all done the old way with out computer, sitting for hours in a library, etc.

A Denny Metz is thanked for making copies and a Loraine says "If you find errors- I take the blame."

With that said, as in any type of work of this magnitude there may be errors. I have found a few dealing with names and number of children in my own direct line. Sometimes dates may not sound correct, etc.

#218. METZ, Isaac Newton b. Nov. 27, 1865 Marion County
m. Cora FETTY
Children: Elza,Leslie, Opal, Mazie, Dorothy,
Amanda, and Dessie (died- infant)

Sarah (Sally) RABER b. Oct. 14, 1837

Newton, Dilla V.,Jacob Rainier,Luella
Myrtle, Elwood, Martha, Madeline Elizabeth,
William Clarence, Sarah, Lettie and Alice

His Father:
#12. METZ, Samuel Leonard b. Dec. 1808 Monongahela County
m. March 21, 1829 Greene Co., PA. by Sam Clark.

Typhoid Fever. Both buried at METZ cemetery,
Marion County.

His Father:
#2. METZ, Jacob, b. Aug. 1, 1783 at Lancaster county, PA.

Nov. 25, 1806, Adah Catherine MICHAEL, b. abt.

and Catheriine

QUESTION????????? Noted within the manuscript regarding an #6. METZ,Isaac m. Lucy HOSKINSON/TALKINGTON in Harrison
County in 1809. There is some doubt if Issac is
the son of Leonard, possibly son of Jacob,
brother of Leonard.

His Father????:
#1. METZ, Leonard b. 1758 in Lancaster, PA. ( Some records
say he was the son of Jacob who died in Dauphin
County, PA. leonard m. his wife Margaret and came
to Monon. Co. about 1810. Margaret was born abt.
1760. Records show them on Buffalo Creek, Pyles
Fork and Paw Paw Creek. They were living in
Marion Co. when Leonard died in Nov. 15, 1865. It
is not known sure where they are buried. There is
some doubt about their children- I have listed
ones I think belong to them.
**NOTE: The above is quoted from the info. I question the dates of birth and death. He would have lived to be abt. 107 yrs. old.

Children: Jacob, Susannah, Peter, Leonard, Isaac,
Barbary, William Franklin, Henry, and Sarah.

I typed this directly from the manuscript. The ***Notes are mine. My famly comes from #1. Leonard son, William Franklin #8. I can see that with the repetition of the names Leonard, Isaac, Jacob amongst several brothers and sisters, it is extremely difficult to follow them.

My branch is:
#8. William Franklin METZ b. 1793 *(children wrong)
m. Nancy E. RANDALL in Harrison Co.abt 1820 and
Catharine CORDAY abt.1846 to be Mother to his
twelve Mother less children

#37. Tapley G. METZ b. 1827 m. 1850, Hannah B. DAVIS b.
1822. Only son was William #142
***Note: William b. 1867, was not son of Hannah
nor was Tapley married previously. The Mother
of William was Rosa Lee JACKSON b. 1850.
Miss Jackson was not born when Tapley married
Hannah Beck Davis a widow. Hannah appears on
several census records as wife of Tapley.

#142 William METZ b. 1867, Calhoun County, W. Va.
**Note: m. Minnie E. PRICE
***Several children (eleven) of which my grandpa,
Cleo METZ, was one of the younger. He married
Dola EPLING from the Looneyville area.
***My Father is the eldest one of four boys. I am
the eldest of his three children.

I hope this gives you something to ponder over. Maybe the places are new info. to you...... Looking over this as in most families due to limited locations or islands along the East coast, there are several instances of 2nd, third and 4th cousins getting married. Again the names repeat themselves as per custom of the time.
Good searching.
