METZ Bernard (Ben) It is with great sadness and much love, we announce his passing at Queens Park Hospice on April 29, 2009, after a courageous struggle with cancer. Born in Sedley, Sask on July 7, 1929, predeceased by his parents, brother Frank and sister Catherine Mikesell. After moving to BC he pursued a career on the Railroad, taking early retirement after 28 years with PGE and BC Rail. He was past President for the BC Rail Pioneers and was Tour Director for the past 10 years. He became an active volunteer with the Senior Centers and was Chairperson for the Games Room at Century House for several years and continued as an active member. He received a plaque of appreciation for his volunteer service to the BC Seniors Games Society as a valued member of the Board of Directors. He was Past President of the Strata Corp for the Promenade where he resided and was actively involved with recycling program and parking. He will be sadly missed by his wife Gwen of 49 years, daughters Margo Boyer, Mardi (Rod) Hassell, grandchildren Alyssa, Adam Boyer, Stephanie (Chris) Wagner, Jordan (Kelsey) Hassell. Sisters Bea Wilkinson, Therese Metz, sisters in law Dorothy Metz, Darlene (Ray) Tamura and brother in law Donald (Joanne) Fitch. Several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and seven great-great nieces and nephews, along with his many friends. A mass will be held at St. Peter's Parish at 398 Royal Avenue, New Westminster on May 13th, 2009 at 12 o'clock (noon) with interment in Sedley, Saskatchewan at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in Ben's memory can be made to the B.C. Cancer Society.
