Have a look on http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch There was an Ambrose Groat born Canada around 1837, who was married to Sarah "Tomkin" "Tompkins" (spelling from some of their children's marriages). By the 1870 census, they were living in Memphis, Macomb Co, MI, with two children (aged 10 and 2 - both Sarah's?) They remained in that area until at least 1900. Sarah was born in England and in 1900 gives her date of emigration as 1865. Could Thomas Tonkin have come into MI via Canada? Could this be Edwin in 1881? England, wife Emma, 40, three children presumably from her first marriage (Sarah, Robin (son), Maryette Campbell), and two Tonkin children, Edwin (5) and Wm H (2). http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/ has the death of "Roland Hill Campbell", 1837-1919, parents Hugh Campbell and Emma Makin. Also Marietta Knight, parents Hugh Campbell and Emma Makin. Are you sure the letter from 1868 was from "Darlington, Wisconsin"? It looks like it may have been from Darlington, Ontario instead.
