Hi I have a puzzle that I can't resolve & need help. François Demaison was a fur trader/voyageur worked for the Northwest Company (NWC) out of Makinac Island, St Joseph Island, Drummond Island. François Demaison fought in the War of 1812 alongside the British troops against the Americans. For his services he was given land on Front St in Drummond Island. A treaty was signed Drummond Island was given over to the Americans as a border was set. The British troops left for relocation in 1828 to Penetanguishene, Simcoe, Ontario. François Demaison left by schooner with the troops & his daughter Archange Demaison in several ships to move belongings etc. . No mention of his county wife the Native lady, maybe she died? Archange was born circa 1815-1816 on Makinac Island likely Fort Michilimakinac or St Ignace. I contacted the Detroit Public Library to access Ste Anne Church records of the Burton Collection & the family is not mentioned I was informed. Once François Demaison was in Penetanguishene he had land there also where the Ste Anne Church stands today. I was told he did not die there as they have no records on him. What happened to this War Veteran, fur trader, yoyageur? If anyone knows anything on the man, his parents, place of birth, place of death, wives or any other children..... He is my PUZZLE since 1989 when I started doing genealogy & I have gotten nothing new in these many years. HELP HELP HELP. Was he a Picard dit Destroismaisons, was he a Demaison, Desmaisons. His descendants carried the name Desmasdon in Pointe au Baril area in Parry Sound District or is it Muskoka District of Ontario. Anyone that can shed light on the man please do.
