If you'd like to visit your local family history center, you can order a microfilm of the death index for Washtenaw County that goes up to 1947.
The microfilm should cost $6, and arrive in a couple weeks generally. There will be volunteers at the center that will explain anything you need to know.
You can search for your grandparents by name on the film. This should let you know at the very least whether your grandparents died in Washtenaw county and the year they died. I don't know if it will have the exact date or the year of death the indexes difer.
If you need the website its www.familysearch.org
