I am trying to verify a story that my father told me when I was young before he died in 1969. I remember a story he told me about being in the army in WW2. They sent him back home due to his asthma. But it saved him as his whole platoon (or group) died in the Philippines. Most of my family had been in the Navy, as they lived on the river and worked on the Great Lakes. I am guessing that he was drafted to be in the army. I want to verify his story, but all the army records for that time burned in a fire in Missouri sometime in the early 1970s. My father, Philip Carman was born in Marine City in 1917. He died of cancer in 1969. His father was John Lacy Carman, who died in 1934 when he was the President of the Marine Savings Bank in Marine City. His father, George W. Carman was cofounder of the bank.
